Hello! My name is Dr. Julie Colton, and I have always been drawn to understanding how the body works—both its science and its subtlety. After earning my degree in Cellular Biology and Fine Mathematics, I initially planned to pursue Western medicine and was on a pre-med track. Life, however, had a different path for me. When my daughter was diagnosed with autism, my path took a turn towards a new direction.
The path of finding the right therapies for my daughter (physical, occupational, and speech therapies) opened my eyes to healing that extends beyond the physical. This led me to explore practices that blend the mental, emotional, and spiritual—Yoga, Ayurveda, Vedic Astrology, Reiki, Music, Pilates, and Fitness. As an experienced Yin Yoga practitioner trained by influential teachers such as Paul and Suzie Grilley, Biff Mithoefer, and Bernie Clark, I became increasingly curious about the medicine behind these traditions. Since Yin Yoga works with the meridian systems, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) felt like a natural next step.
I was captivated by TCM’s holistic view of health and its seamless integration of mind, body, and spirit. I am especially inspired by how ancient wisdom and modern science continue to meet, evolve, and support one another. This led me to earn my Doctorate in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine from Pacific College of Health and Science, a program grounded in both Eastern and Western medical understanding.
When I am not practicing or studying TCM, I enjoy afternoons at the bookstore with my daughter—an avid reader—and taking long hikes with my dog, Mary Jane. I also love to roller skate and am a competitive figure roller skater. So there’s a good chance you’ll spot me gliding around a local roller rink.
